Notification rington question

What are the requirements for notification ringtones? I loaded several ringtones, notice all the phone ringtons area will see it. The notification area doesn't.

There must be a size limit (which makes sense) in the notification area.

Can someone tell me what the limit is? Or maybe the notification only sees a certain format...

UPDATE:

I found a website that someone was asking a similar question, someone replied back saying to create a folder named: notifications and drop your notifications sound files in it... although I still think that notification needs to be small. The files I dropped in my notification directory where between 10K and 20K... Android sees them now...

If anyone has anymore info on this, please post. I am curious...
