Well, there's a Factory Data Reset somewhere in the phone Settings. Search around on the phone for it and you'll find it.
I don't know what part of your data you'll lose though. Maybe none. I just don't know.
If it was me wanting to do a Factory Reset, I'd back up all the data I could. Which would pretty much be only the stuff stored on the SD card memory so you'll want to at least export your contact list to the SD card before you back it up. Although, your contacts are probably sync'd on Google and/or Motoblur, anyway.
Sorry I'm not more experienced with the Factory Data Reset operation. I've never wanted to do it, personally.
The factory reset gets rid of all apps, contact data, pictures, etc. It makes the phone look like when u bought it. U cannot preserve apps or things you have installed on the phone unless u installed them to your sd card. You will keep your motoblur account so all of your social stuff will still be there when u log in. Including contacts syned with gmail.
